Reporting Fraud, Waste and Abuse

You can help! The Office of the Inspector General for Education (OIGE) encourages citizens of Maryland to assist OIGE investigators in the fight against education fraud, waste and abuse, and mismanagement. OIGE offers multiple ways for people to report issues to your agency, including a dedicated tip line and an option for submitting confidential or anonymous complaints.

Before You File A Complaint, here are some things you should know:

CONFIDENTIAL means you provide us with your identifying information (name, address, etc.) when filing the online submission form but request that the OIGE not share this information with individuals or entities outside the OIGE. Your identity will be protected to the maximum extent of the law.

ANONYMOUS means you opt not to provide any identifying information (name, address, etc.) in the online submission complaint. You should know, however, that opting to remain anonymous precludes the OIGE from investigating a complaint as a whistleblower retaliation complaint and may hinder the OIGE from thoroughly reviewing and/or resolving the complaint’s allegations. Here are some suggestions for remaining anonymous while keeping an open line of communication with OIGE:

  1. Use a Non-Identifying Email Address: Create a new email account with a provider like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook. Choose an email address that doesn’t include your name or other identifying information.
  2. Call Through Anonymous Phone Services: Use services like Google Voice to make calls without revealing your phone number. These services allow you to create a phone number that is not linked to your personal information.
