Reporting Fraud, Waste and Abuse

You can help! The Office of the Inspector General for Education (OIGE) encourages Maryland residents to assist investigators in the fight against education fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement. OIGE provides multiple ways for people to report issues to your agency, including a dedicated tip line and an option for submitting confidential or anonymous complaints.

Before You File A Complaint, here are some things you should know:

CONFIDENTIAL means providing us with your identifying information (name, address, etc.) when submitting the online form but requesting that the OIGE not share this information with anyone outside the organization. Your identity will be fully protected by law.

ANONYMOUS means choosing not to provide any identifying information, such as your name or address, when submitting a complaint online. However, you should be aware that remaining anonymous may prevent OIGE from investigating a complaint as a whistleblower retaliation case and could limit OIGE’s ability to review and resolve the allegations thoroughly. Here are some tips for maintaining anonymity while maintaining open communication with OIGE.

  1. Use a Non-Identifying Email Address: Create a new email account with a reputable provider, such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook. Choose an email address that doesn’t include your name or other identifying information.
  2. Call Through Anonymous Phone Services: Use services like Google Voice to make calls without revealing your phone number. These services enable you to create a phone number that is not associated with your personal information.
