The Maryland Office of the Inspector General for Education

The Maryland Office of the Inspector General for Education (OIGE) is an independent agency within the Maryland state government. The office is tasked with examining and investigating the management and operations of county education boards, local school systems, public schools, and nonpublic schools that receive state funding to ensure they comply with federal and state laws. OIGE may also review the management and affairs of the Maryland State Department of Education and the Inter-agency Commission on School Construction.

OIGE also investigates complaints and reports related to civil rights violations involving students and employees, as defined by federal or state law. It also conducts an annual review of local school systems to ensure that policies and procedures for preventing and reporting child abuse and neglect comply with applicable federal and state laws.
